The original 550 debuted in 1989 and made its mark on basketball courts from coast to coast. After its initial run, the 550 was filed away in the archives, before being reintroduced in limited-edition releases in late 2020, and returned to the full-time lineup in 2021, quickly becoming a global fashion favorite.

The New Balance 550 “Black Hemp” is a colorway of the retro basketball shoe with a hemp construction. The 550 “Black Hemp” replaces the model’s standard leather design with a full hemp upper. A black “N” logo with white trim can be found on the sides while white “550” branding is embroidered on the lateral side of the forefoot. “Nb” branding in white is embroidered on the heel and blacked-out “New Balance 550” detailing appears on the tongue.
